We Don’t Do SEO
Yes, you’re right, the 910 West team does spend time thinking about and talking about search engine optimization (SEO). Yes, we know how to implement on-site and off-site SEO. Yes, we help our clients increase their PageRank and website traffic. But we don’t sell SEO.
Hold on a Minute!
So why am I writing so much about SEO if we don’t sell SEO? Because SEO is a tactic. It’s an outdated term that refers to technology. When people use the term “SEO” they are often referring to the latest tricks and shortcuts. We don’t do shortcuts.
Not SEO – Digital Content
Instead of selling SEO, what we do is provide strategic solutions for helping businesses attract the right people. We have high regard for strong branding and knowing your target market. This is what we preach. (Can I get a “Hallelujah!”)
This redirection of focus puts greater emphasis on attracting your target market rather than bringing in traffic volume. Quality over quantity. Sustainable lasting effects rather than short term fixes. What good is bringing in a lot of people if they aren’t going to be interested in what you have to offer? It’s better to draw in people who will be excited about your solutions or products and call you or come visit your store instead of a lot of people who see one page of your website and leave right away (bouncers). Attracting your target market takes strong digital content.
What is Digital Content?
With each Google update, the algorithm that determines how to show search engine results (SERPs) has become more and more savvy. Instead of rewarding websites that game the system—such as using keyword density for higher ranking—content creation is now given more credit.
Websites that were using SEO shortcuts took hits to their PageRank and traffic when the Penguin update was implemented. That’s when content really started to be recognized by Google as being more important than pure SEO techniques. Content has always been important to real people, after all. And we would much rather talk with you about prospects and clients than search engine spiders and algorithms.
Our experience with traditional marketing has taught us that the tried and true principles are more effective than the latest tricks. The effects last longer, too; they don’t take a hit with each search engine update.
Yes, We Do SEO, but as a Tactic
SEO is a tool in our tool belt. The carpenter doesn’t sell you the fact that he has a hammer; he sells you a well-crafted bookcase that fits your exact specifications and holds your library in style. SEO, just like the hammer, is a tool that gets the job done—it is a necessary part of what we do to help your business be found online. Besides, a good tool helps the work go smoothly and with pleasure.
Digital content creation is what helps to achieve the strategy—attracting more of your target market. SEO is only a part of it. Keywords, links, search rank, business listings, blogging, social media; they are all part of supporting your business in the real world. This is our philosophy. What do you think?
